Characters that won't behave

[this is good]

Assuming you are talking about script writing and actors trying to change your script here is some insight from someone who is very close to the film industry.

Actors do NOT have the ability to rearrange, change, or alter the script. They have no script rights. Unless the Actor is an A list actor such as Harrison Ford or Brad Pitt, will the Director and script supervisor are b list.

In a Devils Own starring Ford and Pitt Harrison Ford was supposed to be the bad guy, but being that Harrison wanted the audience to love his character, and he is an A lister with a b list director he was able to change a few things in the script. The end result was that thought that niether pitt or ford was the good guy or the bad guy. Harrison wasn't trying to harm the script he was just trying to make his character more likable because he likes being liked, but he did not do any favors as the story came out muddled and confusing.

If It's an All A list crew there can be some power struggles, usually directors and script supervisors win here. You can't tell Coppola or Scorsese that you don't like they way they are handling something.

You need to remind your actors that their talents lie in acting not in writing, if you come off as a push over and allow them to do what they like you will get ran over ever time.

I was mainly refering to novel writing this time, but I have had that problem with amateur actors. I think you are right, it's all about making sure they know their talents and don't mix up what your vision is! :) thanks! x
